The US government added SZ DJI Technology Co. (DJI), the world's largest drone manufacturer of Chinese origin, to the economic blacklist this Friday following human rights abuses.

In addition to the DJI, the US Department of Commerce blacklisted three other Chinese high-tech companies, OXO World reported .

This Friday, US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross criticized widespread surveillance in China to repress its citizens in Xinjiang and elsewhere in China.

Four Chinese companies did not comment on the US Department of Commerce's decision.

The US Department of Commerce said blacklisted Chinese companies helped repress regimes around the world with their exports, which was not in line with US foreign policy interests.

The US government has previously expressed concern about DJI and other Chinese drone manufacturers.

In January of this year, the US Department of the Interior announced that it would suspend the 800 Chinese drones at its disposal and stop buying additional ones.

In May 2019, the US Internal Security Agency also warned US companies about the risks associated with Chinese drones.

U.S. lawmakers decided this month that the annual defense budget would not ban the purchase of Chinese drone technology.
